Driver training reduces repair costs by 50%
Educating drivers of company vehicles in safe driving techniques can save companies up to 50% in the cost of their accident repairs, says Selsia Vehicle Accident Centres.
In a study carried out on a sample fleet’s 120 drivers across the UK, where 50 of them received driver education in the form of e-learning modules supported by a classroom session workshop, the average incident cost was £410 for educated drivers compared to £808 for the non-educated sample, a saving over around 50% on repair costs. Over the four month trial, the fleet ‘s average saving was more than £18,000. In addition, they experienced further savings from reduced operational downtime and replacement vehicle costs.
Although incidents were recorded, 41% involved the “educated” drivers compared with 59% by the “non-educated” sample. The non-educated drivers had a 50% higher chance of being involved in an incident than the educated drivers. The severity of the incidents amongst the educated drivers was less, leading to reduced average repair costs.
Neil Marcus, director of Selsia Vehicle Accident Centres commented: “These results come as no surprise to us. Although we are in business to repair accident damaged vehicles, we believe in a longer term relationship with our fleet and insurer customers. Duty of Care and a safe workforce is an absolute priority for all businesses operating vehicles. This is why we believe our Selsia Drive Smarter programme of driver training will be an invaluable addition to our full range of fleet accident repair and incident management services we offer at Selsia.
Andy Turner, managing director of Drive Smarter commented: “We are proud to be working with Selsia Vehicle Accident Centres. Their repairers are amongst the best in the UK and we believe our range of driver educational services will complement the professional range of accident services the Selsia team will be offering our corporate customers”.
