The environment, health and safety

Eco-friendlySelsia is passionate about protecting the environment and our people. There are a number of measures in place to ensure our carbon footprint is reduced and that we exercise good corporate responsibility and stewardship.

Environment

  • Selsia repairers comply with the Environmental Protection Act and use low emission waterborne and high solids refinishing materials. This reduces the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released into the atmosphere. This minimises damage to the ozone layer.
  • Vehicle spray booths work under negative pressure to ensure emissions are not released into the working environment.
  • Vehicle spray booths undergo planned maintenance to ensure they are operating to maximum efficiency and emission filters are replaced regularly.
  • Infrared and other fast paint drying techniques are employed which reduces the amount of time and therefore energy used by low bake ovens.
  • Wherever possible, Selsia repairers repair as opposed to replace vehicle parts. This substantially reduces the amount of damaged parts going to waste disposal.
  • All refinishing materials are treated as controlled waste and removed by licenced waste disposal companies employing the correct, responsible waste disposal processes.
  • Where possible and accepted by our customers, green, used parts are used which reduces the amount of damaged parts going to waste.
  • All cardboard and papers are compressed and recycled.
  • Roll priming is used where possible, which reduces VOC emission levels and spray booth energy consumption.

Health and Safety

  • All Selsia repairers comply with the Care of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations .
  • Technicians are provided with the appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection, gloves, non-static overalls, foot protection, ear protection, respiratory air fed masks and skin barrier creams.
  • Risk assessments are carried out in both the work place and office environments. All suitable warning signs are used in both the working and public areas.
  • All structural repair and refinishing equipment is regularly serviced to reduce the chances of accidents. Air quality tests, for air used in respiratory breathing equipment is carried out regularly.
  • No eating or drinking is allowed in workshop areas.
  • High visibility vests are used in areas where vehicle movement is prevalent.
